Excitement is building ahead of a G2 series event including Porsche, Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s along the streets of the capital city Gaborone scheduled for May 2026, called the Posh Race Africa Gaborone CBD Circuit, a planned annual luxury motorsport and lifestyle event hosted by Posh Inc. (Pty)Ltd.

The Posh Race Africa Gaborone is expected to be more than just a race; it will be a celebration of all things automotive. Featuring premium luxury vehicles, this event offers local car lovers a very unique opportunity to get up close to their favourite vehicles and drivers.

“Gaborone is being positioned as competing against the best. We want to grow sports events in Gaborone. We are hosting World Athletics Relays. We want to grow sports tourism,” said Oarabile Motlaleng, Mayor of Gaborone City Council over the weekend at the Track tests in the CBD.

Botswana is introducing a thrilling event that is expected to set local pulses racing with adrenaline-pumping action. Enthusiasts from South Africa and across the region, will ensure the local motorsport community is enthusiastically engaged and offered an inclusive platform for social interaction.

Participating in these activities opens opportunities for meeting people with shared interests, improving communication skills, and fostering a sense of camaraderie.

“I see people here like to drink, eat and party. They need something else,” said Sun Moodley, Chief Executive Officer of Big Foot Express Freight.

Government policies on mobility also encourage investment into green solutions in motorsport. Germany’s highly advanced technology for cars with lower emissions strengthens their race towards the title of the world’s leading sustainable motorsport.

“The direct economic contribution of the global motor sport industry also generates ‘flow on’ effects to other industries, including supplier demand for intermediate goods and services and additional consumption by people employed in the motor sport industry,” said Pome Poomore, CEO of POSH(Pty)Ltd who is the brainchild behind the track event.

He said, “We expect tourist arrivals to Botswana will definetly quadruple. The money we expect participants to spend will bolster revenue for restaurants, beverages and other ancillary services like accomodation.”

Wages spent by the employees of the restaurant (for example, on household items) circulates the money throughout a broader section of the economy creating indirect benefits. This includes flow on expenditure on motor sport and non-motor sport related items

“As the capital city of Botswana, Gaborone prides itself on being a vibrant hub for commerce,  culture, and innovation. The Inaugural Posh Race, with its unique blend of high-performance motorsport, world-class entertainment, and luxury tourism, aligns perfectly with Botswana’s vision to position Gaborone as a leading destination in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region,” said Poomore.

This exciting three-day event is expected to feature 4o Porsche supercars and is expected to attract over 2,000 high-value tourists from South Africa and the broader SADC region. It promises to stimulate significant economic activity across our hospitality, retail, and transport sectors, while also providing employment and skills development opportunities for both young and old.

The City of Gaborone Council has welcomed the event saying it will enhance Gaborone’s profile as a luxury lifestyle and motorsport destination through international media coverage.

It will also generate substantial spend in local hotels, restaurants, and service industries.

Motlaleng said, “We will be implementing world-class security measures, trained marshals, and full licensing to ensure a safe and well-managed event. Showcasing Botswana’s talent with performances from our top local DJs alongside internationally acclaimed artists.”

Accordingly, the City of Gaborone has committed to working closely with Posh Inc. to facilitate the necessary approvals, including CBD closures, racetrack permissions, licensing, and late-trading permits, and to support security coordination through our City Police in partnership with private marshals.

“We believe that the Posh Race Gaborone 2026 will not only elevate our city’s international standing but also create a legacy of annual luxury and tourism events that benefit our citizens and businesses alike,” said Motlaleng.
